Assistant Professor Shamara W. Alhassan becomes a recipient of the 2025-26 Bunche X Blackbird Academic Writing Fellowship!

Assistant Professor Shamara W. Alhassan is a recipient of the 2025-2026 Bunche X Blackbird Academic Writing Fellowship.  She joins an inaugural cohort of fellows who will be provided with a 12-month membership to the Blackbird House Flagship of Culver City. The fellowship is designed for early career faculty whose research, teaching and mentorship focus on Black life.  With this opportunity, Professor Alhassan is well-poised to complete the final edits of her forthcoming book, Re-Membering the Maternal Goddess: Rastafari Women’s Intellectual History and Activism in the Pan-African World, contracted by the University of Illinois Press.   Stay tuned!
