Christien Tompkins is a Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of California Los Angeles in African American Studies. He received his PhD in Anthropology from the University of Chicago in 2017 and previously worked as an elementary school teacher in a New York City public charter school. His first book project, Reconstructing Race: New Orleans Education Reform as Experimental Labor, has been selected by the University of California Press as a finalist in the new series, Atelier: Ethnographic Inquiry in the Twenty-First Century.
